What Does Best Before Really Mean?

At Matraea, we make our all-natural cosmetics with premium, whole, organic ingredients wherever possible. We source these certified ingredients–ideally “virgin” or unrefined–in order to provide the known benefits of “whole ingredients.”  Whole ingredients are considered alive and dynamic, and, as a result, minor variations in colour and texture can be present in the product from time to time. The products themselves are fresh and food grade, and we stand behind their quality. We love them as we expect you to love them.

The Shelf Life of Individual Products Varies

They are at their best within 2 years of packaging, and once opened will remain usable for 6 to 12 months.  Balms like the Nipple Fix and “Mint Bliss”, our lip balm which are wholly natural butter and oil-based, will last longer, even after opening. So even if you lose one down the back of the couch it will likely still be ready to go the next time you happen upon it.  Generally speaking when it comes to natural cosmetics: if it smells good, it is good…no matter what the “best before” date says! Our expiry dates have recently changed, when we first started our dates represented the date of production. Now the date is two years out from production, giving you, the customer a clearer sense of their shelf life, but please, if you have any questions or are all confused, please just ask!

Storing all of our body products at room temperature (between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius) will prolong their life, but we make them handy to use: containers that easily travel in your purse or diaper bag, providing you with the convenience of having Matraea products ‘at the ready’ whenever you need them, wherever you are.
